Add Lehigh University to the list of schools cracking down on fraternities in the wake of the alcohol-fueled Penn State fraternity scandal that culminated in the February death of 19-year-old Timothy Piazza.
Quoting the Morning Call in Allentown, The Associated Press reported that Lehigh, a highly regarded school near Bethlehem in Eastern Pennsylvania, has suspended the Kappa Sigma fraternity through July 2019. The school sanctioned the frat last week following an incident in April that ended with state police arresting more than 40 students for underage drinking at a Kappa Sigma event.
The AP said the move to dissolve the fraternity followed repeated alcohol violations as well as Lehigh's warning of a crackdown on alcohol violations after four students became ill after binge drinking earlier this year.
