A Lemont Furnace man found guilty of a 2005 rape apologized Friday and blamed the assault on drug use.
"I'm very sorry," Cedric Lamont Greer told Fayette County Judge Gerald Solomon before he was sentenced to 10 to 20 years in prison. "Unfortunately, drugs have caused me to make some bad decisions. ... It's not who I am."
Greer, 35, was classified as a sexually violent predator after a hearing yesterday. Before being paroled, he must register with state police on a quarterly basis. Community notification of his classification will be made for the rest of his life.
After a two-day trial in June, a jury found Greer guilty of rape, terroristic threats and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse.
Greer approached a man and a woman as they were having consensual sex in a sport utility vehicle, parked off a dead-end road in Georges on Aug. 27, 2005.
Greer threatened the couple with a gun, then forced the woman to perform various sex acts.
Semen collected from the victim's sweater was found to be Greer's when compared in 2008 to DNA samples contained in the Combined DNA Index System, or CODIS, according to police. Greer's DNA was on file because of a previous incarceration.
Greer had more than two dozen arrests dating back to 1991. One psychological report noted that Greer suffered from depression and antisocial personality disorder.
Herbert Hays, a member of the Pennsylvania Sexual Offenders Assessment Board, testified about his assessment of Greer after interviewing him and reviewing Department of Corrections records, police reports and Greer's criminal history.
"In my opinion," Hays said, "he exceeded necessary force. He used a gun, threatened to kill the people to get them to comply. He pulled the female by the hair."
Greer exhibited "sadistic sexual" behavior as he "humiliated, embarrassed and degraded both of these victims," Hays testified.
