Liberty Tunnels to close for 2 nights
Both tubes of the Liberty Tunnels will be closed for two nights next week, when inspections in the inbound tunnel combine with electrical work on the outbound tunnel, PennDOT officials said.
From 10 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Wednesday and Thursday, consultants from Mackin Engineering and the Sofis Rigging Co. will be conducting routine inspections on the inbound side of the twin tunnels under Mt. Washington, according to PennDOT spokesman Jim Struzzi.
The outbound side is being closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday nights while Wellington Power Corp. updates electrical systems there. That work is expected to be completed by late April.
