Life & death issues II

Tribune-Review

The Trib's editorial calling for President Obama to rescind the Mexico City Policy, which forbids the use of foreign aid money from going to family planning groups that provide information, counseling or referrals regarding abortion (" The Mexico City Policy: Rescind it, Mr. President ," Jan. 21 and PghTrib.com), said that "The Mexico City Policy ... promoted ignorance and probably more abortions."

But reversing it would mean that taxpayer funds would again flow to organizations that promote abortion in other countries.

So, how does that reduce abortion• How have we reached the point where many voices claim the best way to reduce abortion is to permit it?

Commonsense abortion laws -- such as Pennsylvania's -- work! And most Americans agree that less of abortion is in society's best interest.

If we truly think abortions are tragic and we want to reduce the number, we need more commonsense laws in place, not fewer.

And let's leave tax-funded health, education and welfare programs to be debated on their own merits.
