The holiday season kicked off Friday with Light Up Night activities Downtown and at Station Square.

Members of the Greensburg Figure Skating Club show off their moves at the PPG Skating Rink under the lighted tree.

The events sponsored by the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership included performances, family activities, the opening of the ice rink, a charity scavenger hunt — and fireworks.

Macy’s department store is continuing Kaufmann’s tradition of animated window displays.

A new feature this year is the Lighting of the Trees at Market Square.

Hollie Plevyak, spokeswoman for the Downtown Partnership, said of the crowds: “We are confident we’ve exceeded the 100,000 people we expected to visit Downtown for the event.”
