Builders of agricultural silos and barns in Ligonier Township will soon be able to make those buildings taller based on a decision Wednesday.
Township supervisors voted unanimously yesterday to amend a land-use ordinance to allow such accessory farm buildings to reach a maximum height of 35 feet.
The ordinance has long limited barns and silos used for agricultural purposes to 20 feet in height, said Supervisor Keith Whipkey.
"It's been that way the 17 years I've been a supervisor," Whipkey said.
The new height will be permitted only if the buildings are actively used for agricultural purposes and evidence of such activity is provided to the township.
No residents offered comment on the issue, Whipkey said.
The amended ordinance is effective Monday.
