A new name and new authors are on tap for the former Drue Heinz Lectures. Recast as the Literary Evenings, Monday Night Lectures Series for its 21st season, the series again will feature a guest list of distinguished, prominent writers.
The lineup:
• Seymour Hersh: The Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist will speak about "9/11: Ten Years After." Sept. 19.
• John Lithgow: The Academy Award-nominated actor is the author of "Drama: An Actor's Education." Oct. 3.
• Jonathan Franzen: Pulitzer Prize winner for "The Corrections," and author of "Freedom." Oct. 17.
• Mark Bittman: The New York Times food columnist and author of "The Food Matters Cookbook." Nov. 7.
• Ann Patchett: Her forthcoming novel, "State of Wonder," is about doctors working in the Amazon rain forest. Nov. 21.
• Madeleine Albright: The former Secretary of State will talk about her memoir, "Read My Pins." Dec. 12.
• Michele Norris and Isabel Wilkerson: Norris, the author of "The Grace of Silence" and Wilkerson, the author of "The Warmth of Other Suns," will talk about the black migration from the South to the Midwest between 1915-1970. Jan. 30, 2012.
• Sebastian Junger: The author of "The Perfect Storm" and "War" will talk about his harrowing travels. Feb. 27.
• Abraham Verghese: A doctor of Indian heritage who combated AIDs in rural Tennessee will speak about his debut novel, "Cutting for Stone." March 19.
• Lisa See: A novelist whose books include "Dreams of Joy" and "Shanghai Girls." April 2.
All lectures will take place at the Carnegie Music Hall in Oakland. Individual tickets are $15 to $25. Discounted rates for subscription packages of three, six or 10 lectures are available.
