Local woman fulfills long-time goal

Nancy Koller has fulfilled a long-time goal: she has opened a swim spa at her Connellsville home and restaurant at 428 N. Pittsburgh St.

She is a Silver and Fit instructor and a certified lifeguard.

"I always wanted it," she said. Her indoor swim spa contains a 12-by-18-foot pool that is 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 feet deep. The pool has a powered current to swim against and an Air-E-Ator, like a large hot tub. Koller said this feature helps soothe sore muscles.

She keeps the pool a warm 87 degrees, which she called "very senior friendly, especially for my arthritis clients."

Koller offers classes every weekday morning and in the evenings on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Offerings include water aerobic and water arthritis classes, water rehabilitation and water therapy, lap swimming, swim lessons for adults and children, pool parties for adults and children and Zumba Gold dance classes for seniors will be added soon.

"Water exercise programs help your body take advantage of the benefits of water including, increased strength and muscle tone, improved appearance, weight control and a positive correlation between sustained physical activity and cardiovascular health," Koller said.

She said participants need not worry about how they look in a bathing suit. "I tell them to wear a T-shirt and shorts if they want." Those who work in the shallow end don't even get their hair wet.

She will offer Zumba Gold dance classes for seniors in the near future.

Koller accepts various Medicare supplement insurance programs for payment.

The spa features changing rooms, a restroom and comfortable chairs, all in indoor comfort.

In addition to her therapeutic classes, Koller gives swimming lessons to both adults and children and holds pool parties for children and adults. Manicures, pedicures and massages are available at the adult parties.

Koller's restaurant, Nancy's Fancy Tea Room, serves groups of eight or more by appointment only. With the spa, she offers packages for groups to eat lunch, dinner or hors d'oevres and enjoy the pool.

She encourages organizations to make their meetings more physical by booking the pool.

"I have made a five-year commitment to this business, and I'm not giving up on Connellsville. I'm hoping people appreciate my effort and will support me. I've definitely been very appreciative of their support up to this point," Koller said.
