After nearly 60 years developing projects such as the Parkway Center complex and Omega Corporate Center along I-279 South, the Parkway West and the Kossman Building (now known as Town Place), Downtown, Paul Kossman has retired from the real estate business.

Kossman, 82, announced Friday he has turned over the reins of his Kossman Development Co. to his sons, Curtis and Marc.

Development efforts of his Kossman Development Co., a privately held company, will continue under direction of his sons, with several new projects already started and a planned 1 million-square-foot office development that could include some retail in Moon.

Curtis Kossman has been named president, with responsibilities for the overall business and strategic planning, the company said. Marc Kossman has been named executive vice president, with responsibility for general company operations.

Most recently, Curtis was the company's development director and Marc was the operations director.

"I feel blessed to have been able to create lasting landmarks for the city of Pittsburgh and to have two sons willing and able to continue my life's work and extend my personal endeavors into an ongoing family business," Paul Kossman said.

He has been in the real estate business since 1950, during which time he designed, built and managed more than 4 million square feet of office buildings and retail shopping centers in seven states.

Over the past 20 years, Curtis and Marc Kossman worked for the company in various capacities. Curtis has experience as a construction superintendent, construction project manager, draftsman, architect and engineer. Marc has worked as a leasing agent, insurance agent, marketing manager, operations manager and real estate broker.

The company's current projects in the region include Valley Commerce Center, a two-building, 80,000-square-foot complex in Bridgeville, Cross Roads Corporate Center and Park Plaza of Mt. Lebanon, a two-building, 80,000-square-foot office park.

The planned 1 million-square-foot project in Moon, to be called Market Place Center, will be a three-building complex located on a 35-acre site near Pittsburgh International Airport. The company did not disclose further details.
