Lower Tyrone Men's Group will meet for the third time at 8 a.m. Aug. 29 at the Dump Restaurant in Connellsville. All men who live or have lived in Lower Tyrone are invited to come and share in the talk fest.

It all began when we were searching for pictures of the Hulltown School. Many of the past students joined in and found three photos. Then someone suggested we have a meeting of the guys that attended the Hulltown School and this evolved into a meeting in August 2008, and another meeting in April 2009. The meeting is held at the Dump Restaurant in Connellsville. While no formal meeting takes place, it is a time for a bunch of guys from Hulltown and Lower Tyrone to get together for mostly stories from 50 or more years ago. The guys re-live those memories of swimming in the Yough and times at the various one-room schools in Lower Tyrone.

Some of the guys have total recall of what happened when growing up back in the 1940s and '50s, which include some the antics that took place in those days. We also talk about present day happenings and what we have been doing for the past 60 years. Two of the members come from as far away as Florida and Ohio. But, most of the men who attend still live in the area. It's a great time of laughing at some of the things we did while our parents thought we were playing nicely with our friends. Those celebrating birthdays this week are Sam Henry on Wednesday and Ian Michaels on Friday.

Last week's trivia question was: Our area was home to an educator named Bert Means. Can you tell me what his title was and in what school or schools he held position• Audrey Arison called to let me know that Means taught sixth through eighth grades at the Dawson School in 1955, and he was the principal there. I also had the pleasure of speaking to Mean's son-in law, Roger Keightly, who told me that Means also taught in Vanderbilt, Gillispie School in Washington Township, the Bute School and the Fairground School in North Union Township. He retired from educating in 1956, as principal of the Dawson School. Dink Critchfield also knew the answer.

Now for this week's trivia question: Many from the Dawson area are celebrating their 40th high school reunion this year, and up until sixth grade attended the Dawson School. Can any of you tell me who the music teacher was when we attended• If so, give me a call at 724-529-7461 or e-mail at bethannlynn@hotmail.com or write to 276 Banning Road, Dawson, PA 1428-1175.

Until next week friends, keep smiling and have a great week.
