Regarding Tom Purcell's column " What a 'concept' for U.S. automakers " (Feb. 19 and TribLIVE.com): As a patriotic American driving a 1991 S-10 every day, I was truly disgusted by his remarks. He loves his "fast, sleek and stylish" Nissan Maxima, but will it be around in 20, 30 or 40 years• Will it be around as long as my S-10 or my 1970 Nova• And what does it say about his loyalty to his own country?

I have noticed that Americans who own foreign vehicles go out of their way to explain why they own vehicles that support foreign countries. To purchase a foreign vehicle, even if it is manufactured on American soil, you have to know that American dollars go to the country where the manufacturer originates. GM and Ford vehicle owners contribute to the U.S.A., not Japan, Korea, Germany, etc.

Don't describe yourself as an American and prove it by sending your money overseas. Talk is cheap.
