Madonna, Prince top tour gross list

Madonna's Re-Invention tour brought in $125 million in 2004, making it the top grossing tour of the year, Billboard.com reported Monday.

Madonna's tour, produced by Clear Channel Entertainment, sold out 55 of 56 performances worldwide, with an average nightly take of $2.23 million.

Prince's Musicology tour took second place honors with a gross of $90.2 million. He performed before nearly 1.5 million people total, more than any other artist.

Shania Twain was third, reporting grosses totaling $62.5 million and playing to nearly 950,000 fans. Rounding out the top 10 were Simon & Garfunkel, with $59 million; Metallica, with $53.8 million; Bette Midler, with $53.3 million; Sting, with $52.4 million; Kenny Chesney, with $49.3 million; David Bowie, with $46 million; and Toby Keith, with $44.3 million.
