The reputed head of a powerful Italian Mafia family waived his Canadian extradition hearing and will face a 10-year Italian prison sentence. Antonio Commisso, 49, will fly to Italy sometime within the week under a police escort, including Italian officers as well as members of the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit, the Toronto Star reports. Canadian immigration authorities are being questioned about how a man wanted in Europe was able to -- without an alias -- make a comfortable life for himself in Toronto's suburbs. Commisso first moved to Canada in 1974, but soon lost his permanent residency status when he left the country. He returned last year and reapplied for residency status. Commisso was arrested in Canada in late June 2005. © Copyright 2005 by United Press International
