In the last two months, residents of Penn Township have learned of plans to run a high-speed train through the community, destroying homes, businesses, farmland and the rural beauty of the township in the process.

Meetings between our township officials and maglev have been going on for approximately 15 months, but only recently have residents learned of the intensity of the meetings and how close the Port Authority of Allegheny County is to making a final decision as to what route will be selected.

We are very concerned and scared over the potential consequences of maglev, such as the impact on the environment (i.e., noise level and safety), the impact on the beauty of our community, the impact on property values and taxes, and the destruction of homes to build this huge train project.

We do not want this in our community. Far be it for me to stand in the way of progress or big business, but we have invested money and time into building homes and putting down roots here for our families. Surely maglev can find another route.
