Malkin won’t play for Penguins at Columbus
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Center Evgeni Malkin will not play tonight for the Penguins against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena.
He practiced this morning, but he will miss a second game on the season – presumably because of a sore left knee that was re-aggravated Thursday during a home win over Atlanta.
Malkin does not speak after practices on game days and was not available for comment.
Center Max Talbot will play at Columbus. His left foot, injured by a shot from left wing Matt Cooke on Friday during practice, is only bruised.
“You think the worse and you don’t know until you get the result of the X-rays,” said Talbot, who didn’t appear to be bothered by the injury.
He also said he will start wearing protective plastic skate covers for all practices. He has just been wearing those for games and game-day practices.
Talbot said the protective cover would have prevented this injury.
The Penguins (17-8-2, 36 points) are seeking a ninth consecutive win.
