A New Kensington man pleaded guilty Friday to setting off an explosive near a natural gas line at an abandoned house in September.
Gregory Domanski, 50, was sentenced to three to 23 months in the Westmoreland County Prison on a felony charge of risking catastrophe. Judge Richard McCormick Jr. paroled Domanski Friday.
New Kensington police, who investigated the Sept. 12 explosion at a Seventh Street home slated for demolition by the city, said Domanski placed a pipe bomb next to a natural gas meter at the structure, not far from his own residence. Police said Domanski apparently was upset about the vacant home's dilapidated state.
Domanski was treated at a Pittsburgh hospital for a severe hand injury and head lacerations. He was jailed on Sept. 21.
As a result of the explosion, the porch collapsed and windows were shattered, but the gas line did not rupture. The structure has since been razed.
Charges of arson and reckless exploding were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
