NEW KENSINGTON: A suspected car jacking early Monday turned out to be false, police said. David Goss, 21, of Freeport Road, New Kensington, was arraigned Monday afternoon on a charge of false reports to law enforcement authorities before District Justice John Pallone. Goss had reported an alleged car jacking about 9:30 a.m. Monday, police said. ‘He wanted to cover up the fact to his girlfriend that he was a drug user,’ Detective Dennis Marsili said about Goss’s motive. Goss, a white male, told police he was on his way to Citizens Urgent Care for stomach pains at about 2:30 a.m. Monday and was stopped at a red light along Fifth Avenue and Eighth Street, police said. As part of his original testimony, which police said Goss admitted to fabricating after questioning Monday, Goss said two black males, one with a handgun, got into his car. Goss said the unidentified men forced him to drive to an ATM and take out money, police said. Goss then said that he was taken to a 12th Street building and held there by one man while the other left, police said. The second man later returned and Goss said he then had to go to another ATM and get more money out, police said. Goss said the two men kicked him out of his car along Murray Avenue in Arnold, police said. Goss said a minor face abrasion was from the incident, but he later said he made the cut with a rock, police said. Marsili said police found a car registered to Goss along 12th Street sometime after 9:30 a.m. after driving the route that Goss said he went on the night before. Police said Goss had given an unidentified man $20 to allegedly buy drugs, and the man took Goss’ car to pick them up. Goss waited at a 12th Street residence from about 3 a.m. to about 9 a.m. and then called police when the man didn’t return, police said. After searching Goss’s car, which he didn’t have the keys for, police didn’t find any drugs or drug paraphernalia, Marsili said. Goss was released on an unsecured bond Monday. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. Thursday. Jeff Jones can be reached at jjones@tribweb.com
