Man arrested after robbing Fayette Wal-Mart

A man has been arrested on robbery and attempted homicide charges after he stole a computer from a Fayette County Wal-Mart, led police on a chase and then tried to run over state police troopers trying to arrest him, state police in Uniontown reported.

The unidentified man allegedly removed a computer from the Wal-Mart along Route 119 in North Union Township around 4 a.m. today. The man assaulted a security employee who approached him in the parking lot, police said.

He headed south on Rotue 119 in a stolen Volkswagen Beetle, police said. Troopers began chasing him but the patrol vehicle behind the suspect broke down, police said. The troopers began chasing on foot.

The suspect then turned his vehicle toward the troopers and one of them fired his gun at the car, police said. The car eventually crashed and the suspect began running, police said.

He stole a pair of shoes and a bike from the Holiday Mobile Home Park and tried to leave the scene. A witness saw the suspect and contacted officers near the area. Troopers in a state police helicopter saw the suspect from the air and officers took him into custody.

State police will hold a news conference this morning to provide additional information.
