A man has been charged with the murder of a British backpacker in southern Thailand, the BBC reported Saturday.

Mark Lemetti's body was found Friday in a rubber plantation near Sungai Kolok, Thai police said. He had been robbed and killed before being dumped in the plantation. Thai police said they believe Lemetti was not robbed and killed at the spot where his body was found.

A British Embassy spokesman in Bangkok said it had received a report of the man's death, but could not give details pending notification of his next of kin.

The accused man was reportedly originally from Pakistan.
