An Allegheny County man died Sunday after his motorcycle struck a sport utility vehicle in Westmoreland County. Joseph L. Dye, 45, of Jefferson Hills, was pronounced dead at 3:12 p.m. Sunday at Allegheny General Hospital, state police at Greensburg said. Police said Dye was flown by medical helicopter to the Pittsburgh hospital after the accident at 11:40 a.m. on Route 31 West in East Huntingdon Township. According to police, Dye was traveling too fast to stop in time to avoid hitting a Chevy Trailblazer driven by Barbara Myers, 54, of Mt. Pleasant. Police said Myers was stopped, waiting to make a left turn onto First Street in Tarrs, when the bike struck her vehicle from behind. After hitting the SUV, Dye, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from his 1997 Harley-Davidson motorcycle and into the rear of a legally parked pickup owned by Robert King, of Mt. Pleasant. Police said Myers also was taken to Allegheny General, but the hospital had no information on her condition. Unity Township Suspected drug found An assistant principal at Latrobe Area High School found suspected marijuana Sept. 30 in the purse of a 16-year-old girl. During a search of the student’s locker, a clear baggy was found with the suspected drug. The substance was taken to the state police crime lab in Greensburg for testing. Georges Township Missing juvenile A 14-year-old boy left his residence Saturday in Stricker Estates, Georges Township, and has not returned. State police are looking for William A. Cramer, 14, of 28 Rose Circle. He “could be heading anywhere,” police reported. Cramer is 5 feet, 5 inches tall, and 95 pounds with brown crew-style hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing camouflage pants and shirt. Bullskin Township Waived to court A 19-year-old man who allegedly led local and state police on a chase through Connellsville and Bullskin Township waived the charges to court last week at a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Robert Breakiron. Brian Edward Moore Jr., whose address is listed as the USS Carter Hall, a Navy landing ship dock, is jailed in Fayette County Prison on $25,000 straight cash bond. He is charged with a felony count of aggravated assault, three misdemeanor counts of recklessly endangering another person, two misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief, and single misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct and fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer. Moore fled in his vehicle during a traffic stop at 1:17 a.m. Sept. 17 on Route 119 in Bullskin Township. Police said Moore was stopped by police because a taillight on his unregistered 1993 Ford Escort was burned out, and the license plate was hanging by one bolt. At first, Moore pulled over, but when Trooper Christopher Egidi got out of his patrol car, Moore took off, driving south and eventually into Connellsville, police said. Once in Connellsville, Moore drove in circles, police said, failed to stop at numerous stop signs and traffic lights and drove the wrong way on one-way streets. His vehicle also struck a Connellsville patrol car on an East Crawford Avenue bridge, causing about $1,500 damage. The officer driving the car, Cpl. Dan Sherbinsky, was not hurt, said Connellsville Chief Stephen Cooper. The pursuit lasted roughly 15 to 20 minutes and ended when Moore tried to turn onto an alley off East Crawford Avenue and crashed into a light post, police said. Uniontown Checks scam probed State police at Uniontown are investigating numerous incidents of counterfeit Visa traveler’s checks being passed in the area. The checks are usually in the amount of $500, although there may be some for $100, police said.
