Authorities continued Tuesday to work on positively identifying a man who was found shot to death inside the kitchen of a home in Somerset County.

The man's body was discovered about 10 p.m. Monday at what is believed to be his rental apartment in Jefferson, according to a search warrant obtained from Confluence District Judge Sandra Stevanus. The apartment is near the village of Bakersville, about six miles west of Somerset.

Police said neighbors called police after hearing eight or nine gunshots and saw a white PT Cruiser speeding away. Officers found the man dead with gunshot wounds of the head, chest and arm, according to the affidavit filed requesting the search warrant.

Police found a rental car leased to a man from Brooklyn parked at the house.
