Man from Moon indicted on mail, wire fraud charges
A man from Moon charged with insurance fraud and drug offenses in state court now must answer to additional fraud charges in federal court.
A federal grand jury Tuesday indicted Ryan Blumling, 34, on four counts of mail and wire fraud connected to two different schemes. The indictment was unsealed Wednesday.
Blumling wasn't aware of the federal investigation, his attorney Robert Stewart said Friday.
“We anticipate trying to reach some resolution with the government, but we haven't begun talks yet,” he said.
In one scheme Blumling persuaded people to hand him thousands of dollars that were supposed to be invested in coal mining operations but actually went into his pocket, prosecutors say.
In the other scheme, he convinced people seeking business loans to pay him thousands of dollars in administrative fees without lending them any money, prosecutors say.
In June, the state Attorney General's Office charged Blumling and two other men with using fake prescriptions to obtain painkillers using one of their insurance programs to pay for the prescriptions.
