Man in custody following incident near Abby Lee dance studio

Penn Hills police took a man who tried to enter Abby Lee Dance Co. on Tuesday to Forbes Regional Hospital for a mental health evaluation.

Joseph Irving McKinstry, 34, was sitting in the middle of Saltsburg Road just before 5 p.m. when officers arrived, police Chief Howard Burton said. McKinstry was carrying a backpack and two suitcases, police said.

He had a driver's license from Kentucky. Police said he was homeless.

Burton said police will determine whether to file charges against him once he is released from the hospital.

The studio is featured on “Dance Moms,” a reality show on Lifetime television.
