SMITHTON - A truck driver killed when he walked into the side of a garbage truck early Friday has been identified by the Westmoreland County Coroner's office.

Caswell Smart, 33, of Somerset, N.J., died at the scene of the accident at the Smithton Truck Stop in South Huntingdon Township.

He was struck by a Greenridge Waste Services truck driven by Jeremy Johnson, of Mill Run. Smart was pulled under the rear wheels of the truck as he made his way across the lot to his parked rig. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Smart, who was driving a truck owned by St. Cloud, Minn.-based ATS, apparently was at the truck stop to get cleaned up; a toothbrush and toothpaste were lying near his body, police said.

State police at Belle Vernon and officials from Greenridge Waste Services continued to investigate the accident Friday afternoon.
