Man shot on North Side PAT bus
A bullet fired through the window of a Port Authority bus overnight struck a passenger in the chest as he rode through the North Side, officials said.
Police have not determined whether James Raglin, 27, of Homewood, who remained hospitalized this morning, was the intended target of the shooting or the victim of random gunfire.
"Nobody on the bus saw anything or anyone outside," Port Authority spokesman Bob Grove said.
The 500 bus was stopped at a red light at the corner of California and Termon avenues in Brighton Heights at 12:35 a.m. when the driver heard a loud bang. Raglin and his nephew, Robert Raglin III, 20, of the North Side, quickly asked to get off, Grove said.
"The operator sees that (the victim) is bleeding and tells them they should stay, but they wanted off," Grove said.
The driver let them off and drove a few blocks up Termon Avenue as he radioed for help. A few minutes later, the Raglins caught up to the bus as police arrived.
James Raglin was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in serious, but stable, condition. The driver and the three other passengers aboard the bus were not injured, Grove said.
Investigators believe the bullet came from outside the bus.
Police learned that Robert Raglin was wanted on an arrest warrant for robbery charges. Cops took him to the county jail, Grove said.
City homicide detectives are assisting Port Authority police in the investigation.
