Man taken into custody after police standoff in Claridge
A man was taken into custody Friday evening after a nearly three-hour standoff with police in Penn Township.
Township police and the state police SERT unit responded to a call at about 6 p.m. of a person firing several rounds at a residence on Riverside Drive in Claridge.
Township police Lt. Ralph Boura said that the suspect was shooting at vehicles in his driveway, then turned the gun on his parents. The man’s father reportedly barricaded himself inside a bathroom while his mother was able to escape and phone police.
After police negotiated with the man by phone, he released his father. Both parents were unharmed.
The man told police that he would shoot if anyone approached the house. After almost three hours, he emerged from the house and was apprehended by police.
The suspect was arraigned last night before District Justice Helen Kistler in Harrison City. Police said that he will be charged with aggravated assault.
