Man, unborn child die as result of head-on crash in Indiana County
A 31-year-old Armstrong County man was killed and an unborn child died later at UPMC Mercy in Pittsburgh in a head-on collision Tuesday night along Route 422 in Indiana County.
Brandon Scott Miller of 725 Woodward Ave., Kittanning, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident at 10:47 p.m. near the intersection of Route 422 and Cunningham Road in Armstrong Township, according to Coroner Michael Baker.
Baker said authorities are trying to determine why Miller’s westbound car crossed the center line and struck a vehicle head-on.
The 25-year-old pregnant woman who was driving the vehicle, who was not identified by authorities, was taken by medical helicopter to the Pittsburgh hospital, where she lost her unborn child, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office. Her 3-year-old daughter, who was strapped in a car seat, suffered minor injuries, police said.
The woman was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from her vehicle. Miller also was not wearing a seat belt, according to police.
Baker said he has not ruled out the possibility that a sudden medical problem may have caused Miller to veer into the opposite lane. He said toxicology tests are pending.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete for Miller, Baker said.
