A New York man accused of sending threatening emails to the University of Pittsburgh pleaded guilty to harassment Thursday.

Pitt police arrested Mark Lee Krangle, 66, of Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y., in April after he got off a plane at Pittsburgh International Airport. They charged him with harassment and making terroristic threats in response to the emails he sent to former and current Pitt professors.

Police at the time said Krangle was not connected to the rash of bomb threats that were plaguing the university. At a preliminary hearing Thursday morning, attorney Jeffrey Weinberg said Krangle is highly intelligent but suffers from fixed delusional patterns and is receiving psychiatric treatment. His family will care for him in New York, Weinberg said.

Krangle pleaded to summary harassment and promised to leave Pitt alone. He was sentenced to time served.

“I am committed to not communicating with these professors any more,” he said in court.
