Manor Township man dies in head-on crash along Dime Road
A Manor Township man died from injuries he received in a collision along Dime Road just at 7 a.m. Monday, police said.
Wesley Colbi Cousins, 25, of 2701 Manor Drive, died in the Alle-Kiski Medical Center, Harrison, about 90 minutes later.
Parks police said Cousins was driving northbound along the 1600 block of Dime Road, near Ironhorse Motors, when his car drifted across the road into the southbound lane, police said.
Cousins’ car entered into the path of a pickup driven by Shawn Patrick Cole, 32, of the 1800 block of Dime Road.
“He tried to avoid the accident and turned his truck, but it was still an almost head-on collision,” said Parks Township police Chief Doug Cuica.
Police are unsure what caused the wreck.
A man who was following the Cousins car told police he saw the vehicle drift across the lane and then back into the northbound lane minutes before the collision. “The witness said he saw the driver’s head was down and he couldn’t tell if he was using a cell phone or was falling asleep,” Cuica said.
The witness, who said the Cousins car was being driven at 55 to 60 mph, told police he slowed down to increase the distance between his car and Cousins’. Minutes later the crash occurred.
Police said Cousins’ car came to a rest perpendicular across the middle of the southbound lane.
The pickup stopped in the southbound lane in the same direction it was headed before the wreck.
Cousins and Cole were taken by ambulance to the hospital.
Cousins died in the Alle-Kiski emergency department at about 8:40 a.m. from blunt force trauma, the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s office said. The death was ruled an accident.
Police said Cole, who lives about a quarter-mile from the crash, was on his way to work.
He was treated and released with back pain, a hospital spokeswoman said.
