A man's body was found Monday beneath the Ninth Street Bridge in an area frequented by homeless people, a deputy Westmoreland County coroner said Monday.

The coroner's office said the 53-year-old man is from New Kensington.

The office was having difficulty finding a relative to notify Monday and wouldn't release his name.

Officials said the man, who wore a dark T-shirt and jeans, was found on his right side. He was facing the Allegheny River, about 80 yards away.

Police said there was no immediate sign of trauma. Officials couldn't say if he died of natural or other causes.

Toxicology tests will be done.

The man was found on the asphalt under the bridge in an area with weeds, empty bottles and discarded items.

City police were called about 11 a.m.

Westmoreland County detectives investigated with city police.

Police said they knew the man and had frequently seen him on the streets.
