McKees Rocks man sought in Manchester preservationist attack case

Police said today that a McKees Rocks man is a suspect in the abduction, stabbing and robbery of a prominent Manchester preservationist who was once director of the Pittsburgh Housing Authority.

Pittsburgh Police have issued a warrant for Matthew Frazier, 32, after Stanley A. Lowe, 59, picked him out of a photo lineup, according to the police affidavit.

Frazier is facing charges of kidnapping, attempted homicide, aggravated assault, burglary, robbery, robbery of a motor vehicle, criminal conspiracy and ATM fraud. Lowe told police that he had known Frazier for about six months through the Labor Ready work program.

Police said Frazier and another man allegedly forced their way into Lowe's home early Saturday, stabbed him, tied him up, searched his house for money, took him to his car and drove him to an ATM machine on Banksville Road. After forcing him to withdraw $200 from the ATM, the two men stabbed him several more times and then drove off in Lowe's sport utility vehicle.

Lowe was taken to UPMC Mercy where he underwent surgery. His family released a statement saying his wounds were not life-threatening. The hospital and Richard Taylor, a spokesman for Lowe's family, declined to release an update on Lowe's condition.
