McKeesport Area School District will be looking for a new superintendent. Michael B. Brinkos, superintendent for the past 13 months, confirmed that he will be leaving that position to join the Allegheny Intermediate Unit as its director of human resources.
"I think after 23 years it is an opportunity for professional growth," Brinkos said Tuesday afternoon.
Brinkos worked his way up the line in the McKeesport district to the position he assumed in June 2009.
Brinkos said he was confident that the administrative team and teachers he is leaving behind will be able to continue the work begun during his tenure.
"We have been able to achieve some great things there," Brinkos said.
Brinkos said he will work closely with Dr. Linda Hippert, executive director of the intermediate unit serving the 42 suburban school districts in Allegheny County.
He said, however, that he will not be named as the day-to-day administrator in the Duquesne City School District.
Dr. Hippert is superintendent of record in that district under a contract with the district's state-appointed Board of Control.
However, AIU has been searching for a day-to-day administrator to replace Dr. Cheryl Fogarty, an AIU administrator who left Duquesne this summer to assume a new job as day school director at the Children's Institute of Pittsburgh.
