Md. man charged in attempted homicide
A Maryland man was charged with attempted homicide after he fired a shot at Somerset County man in the victim’s home early Friday morning.
The suspect, Jeffrey Thomas Kelly, 38, of Grantsville, Md., was accused by state police at Somerset of firing a shot at George A. Mitchell, 28, of Cypress Lane, Addison, during an argument at Mitchell’s home.
Kelly was charged with attempted homicide and robbery, aggravated assault, simple assault, burglary, recklessly endangering another person and terroristic threats. He was arraigned before District Justice William Roush, of Boswell, Somerset County.
Police allege that Kelly brandished a gun and demanded Mitchell give him money when Kelly entered Mitchell’s home unannounced and when he was not invited.
During a struggle, the gun discharged once, hitting a wall. Kelly then allegedly pointed the gun at Mitchell and failed in an attempt to fire it.
Mitchell disarmed and subdued the suspect, and police were notified.
