Meeting set to discuss Coal and Coke Trail
Supporters of the proposed Coal and Coke Trail between Mount Pleasant and Scottdale will meet next month to lay the groundwork for trail construction.
The meeting is set for 1 p.m. Jan. 13 at Jimmy Paul’s Restaurant, in Mount Pleasant. Supporters who attend will be asked to commit themselves or their organization to one or more tasks:
= Members of the Construction Committee will plan and work on building the trail.
= Maintenance Committee members at first will clear trash, cut weeds, shrubs and trees, and collect and recycle tires from the trail. After the trail is built, members will patch holes in its surface, mend fences and benches, and report major problems to the board.
= Membership Committee members will distribute brochures and recruit trail chapter members.
= Members of the Fund-raising Committee will contact businesses, organizations and foundations, seeking additional funds for construction, maintenance and operation of the trail and its supporting organization.
Grant money is available for the project, but the trail chapter must raise matching funds.
