David Plunkett resigned his position with British Prime Minister Tony Blair's Cabinet Wednesday over allegations he breached ministerial ethics codes.

Plunkett left his position as Work and Pensions secretary. Last year he resigned as Britain's home secretary when members of Parliament claimed Blunkett misused ministerial privileges.

The latest allegations center on Blunkett's failure to declare he was a director of a biotechnology company during the time he was out of government.

Blunkett reportedly resigned as a director at DNA Bioscience when he was offered the new cabinet position but retained shares in the company, which has been seeking government contracts.

Blunkettt issued a statement saying he was leaving the Cabinet to protect the government from the media diversion away from its real work on public reforms.

Blair, speaking Wednesday in Parliament said he had not dismissed Blunkett under the ministerial code, which he did not believe was breached.
