Two former Fayette County men who are serving life sentences for killing a police informant are seeking a new trial.
In the self-filed motions, Stanley T. “Casper” Brown, 37, and Ronny “Capone” Austin, 37, both formerly of Uniontown, are claiming ineffective assistance of counsel.
Brown, Austin and a third man, Edward “New York Ed” Monroe, 52, were convicted in 1997 of first-degree homicide and sentenced to life in prison for the shooting death of Patricia “Flo” Malec, 47. All three were spared the death penalty. Malec's partially decomposed body was discovered in a wooded area off Jumonville Road in North Union. She had been shot twice in the head in June 1995, according to court records.
Malec was a confidential police informant who was going to testify at a preliminary hearing that she purchased cocaine from Monroe, according to court records.
