Mexico loses nearly 500,000 members of its workforce every year, Reforma reported Friday.
Only China loses more hand laborers than Mexico, with a total of 522,000 fleeing the country every year, according to the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency's 2005 Factbook.
The high number of people who leave Mexico every year -- 485,000 -- is associated with the weak economy, particularly in rural areas, and the inability of the government to create sufficient jobs to retain its workforce.
According to the Factbook data, 4.6 out of every 1,000 Mexican citizens migrates to another country. The United States, Canada, Germany and the United Kingdom are the four most popular destinations for Mexican emigrants seeking work.
