Michigan man charged with stealing vehicles, items from another

State police arrested a Michigan man, charging him with stealing items from one car and taking two vehicles early Friday morning.

Joseph Michael Borgne, 28, of Ecorse, Mich., was arraigned before District Judge James Owen and charged with burglary, theft from a motor vehicle, criminal mischief, receiving stolen property, and two counts of theft by unlawful taking after he allegedly entered an unlocked Pontiac Vibe and removed a laptop computer, digital camera, portable music player, and an embroidered handkerchief, valued at $3,340.

According to police:

Borgne then entered a Ford Tempo belonging to the same person and drove it north on Cowanshannock Road until the road ended and he became stuck in a yard. He then entered a Ford pickup truck and used a garage door opener to enter the garage, where he took keys to a Suzuki sport utility vehicle. He drove the sport utility vehicle and began driving through a yard, where he struck another parked vehicle.

The Suzuki then became stuck when he drove down an embankment into high weeds and grass. He fled the scene on foot and was spotted walking along Troy Hill Road, near the Iron Bridge Road intersection.

Police, who did not identify the victims, said the incident began around 2 a.m. and they arrested Borgne at 4:30 a.m. After being questioned by police, he was arrested and placed in the Armstrong County Jail, where he is being held on $50,000 bond.
