A Michigan man pledged his heart and got a new one — all within a span of a few hours. Detroit-area resident Steven Dulka III finally got the call he had been waiting for on Oct. 2 — a hospital had a heart for him and he needed to get there immediately for his transplant. The only hitch was Oct. 2 was the day Dulka, 51, was to get hitched to Deirdre Jacoboni in the suburb of Livonia, the Detroit Free Press said Thursday. The couple got on the phone and started calling guests to move the wedding up an hour. After a shortened ceremony, the newlyweds made a mad dash to their “honeymoon suite” at Detroit’s Henry Ford Hospital. Dulka was released from the hospital Wednesday, ready to start his new life. “I never thought I’d meet the person I love, the person I was waiting for,” Dulka told the Free Press. “My life was truly saved and to have it happen the same day.” © Copyright 2004 by United Press International
