After a monthlong break, Millvale Library has reopened.

The library is open from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.

The library is being housed temporarily in the Millvale Community Center.

New Sun Rising, a small local nonprofit organization, spearheaded a project to bring a library to the town. The group's chairman, Brian Wolovich, said a permanent location is the ultimate goal.

Thanks to a number of grants, the library opened in June to serve the children of Millvale. It is packed with books, magazines and some games, and children's programs were held throughout the summer.

"If you're trying to make a positive impact, who better to start with than the children?" Wolovich said. "However, our end goal is to create a library for all ages and all people in Millvale."

New Sun Rising bought a pair of buildings on the 200 block of Grant Avenue to house the library, but much work remains to be done. Volunteers are working to raise money for renovations and basic operational costs.

Residents and local businesses continue to show support and Wolovich has received donated time and materials from all over the community.

Shaler Area School District donated library furnishings when the school library was renovated, and Hampton Township High School student John Nugent volunteered to landscape the back lot of the library as part of his Eagle Scout project.

"Sometimes you find yourself in the right place at the right time," Wolovich said. "There's a lot of naysayers, but there's also a lot of support in the community for a library. The pieces of the puzzle are being assembled and the real shame would be if we didn't try and see if it's possible."

The New Sun Rising continues to look at possible programs the library can offer, grants it can apply for and ways to make the library as "green" as possible to be environmentally friendly and energy efficient.
