With Collections by Marty and Miss Martha's Tea Room, Marty Savanick has helped bring new life to the downtown Pittsburgh Street business district in Scottdale.
Now she is adding to that draw by opening Miss Martha's Floral, a shop on the second floor of Miss Martha's Tea Room that will offer a unique selection of silk flower and fresh flower arrangements as well as handmade birch and grapevine wreaths.
Savanick said the idea came together when acquaintance Dave Mardis inquired about a job opportunity.
"He was employed at a local florist for over 20 years, so when he approached me we began talking about possibilities," she said. "I always wanted to do a gift basket business or custom wreaths, but with Dave's talent in the floral business, we decided we could fit a floral business in here."
Mardis said he is happy with his involvement of running the floral business.
Savanick said they have started selling silk flower arrangements and the fresh flower part of the business is also available.
"We've already signed up three weddings and have several more appointments," Savanick said.
One of the features she and Mardis have been working on to make the shop unique is the addition of the special crosses and angels for bereavement pieces.
"These are things that can go into the floral arrangements that can be kept once the flowers die," she said.
They also have a special bridal consultation room.
Savanick said the floral shop and the tea room will complement each other very well.
"We do a lot of bridal showers at the tea room so now we'll be able to offer fresh flowers for the tables," she said. "We also have a big Mother's Day event at the tea room and we'll be able to offer rosebud corsages, vases of fresh spring mix flowers and mother-themed gift baskets."
Delivery service is available.
The actual grand opening of the floral shop is scheduled for April 24 and 25 which will include the grand re-opening of the art gallery in the hallway of the second floor where the Laurel Art Club displays the works of its artists which are for sale.
Savanick said she has high hopes for the new business.
"All of my customers, as well as Dave's are very excited about the new shop," she said.
