A missing Florida teenager was found safe Thursday and the convicted sex offender believed to be her abductor apparently killed himself, police say.
Shortly after an Amber Alert went out for 17-year-old Dialys Ramos of Hialeah, a motorist spotted the suspect's car and called police. When officers pulled over the car, the girl jumped out and ran, the South Florida Sun said.
The suspect, Robert Laird, 39, of Miami, was found shot with a .22-caliber pistol in his car on the shoulder of the road near Florida's Turnpike in Broward County.
Police said the deadly wound appeared to be self-inflicted. They said they did not hear a gunshot, however.
Investigators were checking to see whether Ramos and Laird knew each other.
