Pennsylvania Rep. Adam Ravenstahl, D-Summer Hill
State Rep. Adam Ravenstahl's mother helped clear her son's path to a primary election victory Wednesday.

Cindy Ravenstahl of Perry North and Troy Hill resident Jeffrey Anesin challenged more than half of the signatures that Brian Weismantle, Ravenstahl's lone Democratic primary challenger, filed to appear on the April 26 ballot.

Commonwealth Court Senior Judge Dan Pellegrini ruled in favor of the challenge Wednesday, removing Weismantle from the ballot.

Neither Cindy Ravenstahl nor Anesin could be reached for comment.

Weismantle, 50, of Spring Hill declined to comment on the decision but said he is considering an appeal. He challenged and lost to Magisterial District Judge Robert Ravenstahl, the family's patriarch, last year.

There are no Republicans running in the primary.

Adam Ravenstahl, 31, of Summer Hill has served three terms as a state representative. He is the brother of former Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl.

Candidates for state representative must file 300 signatures to appear on the ballot. Weismantle filed 444 signatures and 295 were challenged, many because it appeared the person who signed the petition did not fill out information such as his or her address and the date, according to documents filed in the case.

Weismantle agreed to throw out 73 signatures, leaving him with 369 valid ones but many objections remaining.
