The Mon Valley Branch National Association for the Advancement of Colored People will host a candidate's forum 6:30 p.m. April 29 at the Mon Valley Health Center, Eastgate 8, Monessen.

The free event will be open to all area candidates and residents. Charles Bolden Jr. will serve as moderator.

"Your vote equals power," Mon Valley NAACP President George Burroughs Jr. said. "Listen to the candidates' positions on the issues and use that power wisely.

"Ask questions of your council, school board, county commissioners and other candidates."

Burroughs indicated that candidates who have not received invitations should call the NAACP office at (724) 684-8545.

"Remember that a few votes made history in the last presidential election," Burroughs said. No matter what your party affiliation, your vote is important. Wishing for change does not make it happen. Only your actions can make it so.

"Empower yourself. Listen to the candidates' view and then vote."

Refreshments will be available.
