Staff from the Mon Valley YMCA were operating a booth at an event recently when a woman came up to them and said she thought YMCA was just a song.
“A lot of people don't know we are here,” said Allison Ducoli, new membership director. “This is a way to invite people to come and see what we have to offer.”
That event will be the first Mon Valley YMCA Y Family Fun Week, running Monday through Friday at the Carroll facility, 101 Taylor Run Road.
The event will include an open house, a tour of the YMCA facility, including the child learning center.
Free visits will be offered for non-members all week, including free weeklong admission to fitness classes. Nonmembers must register in the business office before using the facility and are asked to bring a photo I.D. to register.
“The idea is to invite people to come and see the Y,” Ducoli said
Information on the YMCA's preschool and daycare programs will be available with tours of those facilities for interested parents.
“YMCA preschool students are given more than just the classroom experience,” said Susan Capocciama, assistant director. “With additional amenities such as our library, gymnasium, and playground, a ‘Y Kid' will have a well-rounded experience to begin their school career.”
Daily events are planned and include:
• Monday: Grab 'n Go Sale: Food and desserts will be set up in the lobby of the YMCA at 9 a.m. Among the featured items will be hot dogs, baked goods, fruit and drinks. The staff is donating all of the food.
