Monessen coach, player ejected during victory

Neither Belle Vernon Area's Chris Stasicha nor Monessen's Sam Perry were smiling after their playoff-bound boys' soccer teams closed the regular season Monday.

cf0 Despite finishing in second place in Class A Section 4 with a 2-1 win over visiting Geibel, Perry was burning. The Greyhounds' first-year coach received a red card as did his son, Josh Perry, which means the two will have to sit out the first round playoff game.

The younger Perry was ejected with 11 minutes remaining after pushing a Geibel player after getting tripped on a breakaway with nothing being called.

Sam Dalfonso scored the game-winner for Monessen (10-8, 8-4) with 9:10 remaining on an assist from Dan Vivio. The Greyhounds'd5 other goal was Brent Lenhart'd5s penalty kick for his 18th score.

The Greyhounds finished a game ahead of Chartiers-Houston, a 2-1 loser to section champion South Fayette.

Geibel (6-12, 4-8) lost to Monessen, 6-2, in their first meeting.

Meanwhile, Belle Vernon Area 'd1 the Class AA Section 1 champ 'd1 suffered its first section defeat at Indiana, 2-0.

'd2It was their Senior Night and we weren'd5t at our best,'d3 said Stasicha.

The Leps (16-3-1, 12-1-1) beat Indiana, 3-0, in their first meeting. Indiana (12-4-1, 11-2-1) ended up tied for second with Southmoreland, a 4-1 winner over Mt. Pleasant.

Ringgold 6, Connellsville 0

The Rams (6-12-1) ended their season on a winning note with Kevin Baldini leading the way with three goals in the non-section contest. Jordan Kurth added a pair of goals with Ryan Meehan getting the other score.

Ringgold snapped a five-game losing skid with its second 6-0 victory over the Falcons (3-17).

The Warriors (11-7-2, 5-5-2) played the Class AA Section 3 runnerup Jaguars close. Josh Teti scored an unassisted goal with 18 minutes remaining after Mike DeAngelis and Ryan Browne gave TJ (14-3-2, 9-2-1) a 2-0 halftime lead.

All of Elizabeth'd5s losses were to teams ranked in Class AA'd5s top 10.

Bentworth 7, Beth-Center 2

Tyler Hamstra scored three goals as Bentworth (8-7-1, 6-6) closed with three straight wins in the Class A Section 4 game.John Kennedy added two goals for the Bearcats with Dustin Fonner and Rocco Malarbi getting the other scores.
