Perfect attendance. Academic excellence.

These are some of the achievements Steven Gregor has been recognized for at Monessen High School.

With an eye toward graduation, the 17-year-old senior is getting ready to do portfolios for senior exit interviews.

Next year, he hopes to begin studying engineering in college, possibly at the University of Pittsburgh.

"I'm still looking around. I'm looking for a good engineering school," said Gregor, who is interested in civil and mechanical engineering.

Gregor, a son of Donald and Deborah, of Monessen, has a 21-year-old brother, Donald, who is studying civil engineering at Pitt's Oakland campus.

Gregor said he's considering commuting to the Greensburg campus for the first two years. "It's really nice there," he said.

Now that soccer season is over, it gives Gregor more time to concentrate on selecting a college.

A soccer player on the high school team for four years, Gregor held the position of captain his senior year. Gregor, who has played since age 5, said he was proud that his team went to the playoffs last year for the first time.

"We made it to the first round of playoffs," Gregor said. "We really would have liked to go to the second round."

In addition to soccer, Gregor holds membership in the Leo Club and the Ski Club. In his spare time, Gregor enjoys working on computers.

A person who enjoys nature, Gregor said he likes to hunt, fish and hike with his dad. He usually spends time outdoors in Greene County.

"Last year I got a really nice buck, but it's not all about the trophies," Gregor said. "It's nice to sit in the woods."

A straight-A student, Gregor has been recognized by the Rotary Club and Lions Club as Student of the Month for October and November.
