A Washington County man was killed Wednesday when his car ran into a tractor-trailer in Perry Township, Fayette County.

James B. Rodden Jr., 59, of Union Street, Monongahela, was pronounced dead at 1:35 p.m. at Monongahela Valley Hospital, Carroll Township.

According to state police at Belle Vernon, Rodden was traveling north in the passing lane of Route 51 about 12:40 p.m. when the rig operated by Donald K. Davis, 50, of Grindstone, was stopped in the same lane near Marcel's Pottery. Police said Davis was preparing to turn left off Route 51 when his rig was rear-ended by Rodden's Mitsubishi coupe.

Davis was not injured.

Police said both Rodden and Davis were wearing seat belts.

An autopsy will be performed on Rodden to determine the cause of death, according to the Washington County Coroner's Office.
