More than 1,000 customers without power in Mt. Pleasant after pole catches fire

More than 1,000 customers in Mt. Pleasant lost power Friday after a utility pole caught fire.

Doug Colafella, Allegheny Power spokesman, said the interruption occurred about 10 a.m. "It appears there was an equipment failure on a pole that caused the pole to catch on fire," Colafella said.

That resulted in a loss of power for 1,067 customers, mostly in the area of Bessemer and Mt. Pleasant roads. Colafella said all power was restored by 11:20 a.m.

"Crews were able to reroute power by avoiding that pole," Colafella said. "They were able to isolate that pole, extinguish the fire and replace the pole, because of the threat that it could come down."
