More than 140 arrested in Italy

A two-day security operation prompted by the London bombings has resulted in the arrest of 142 people in Italy.

Some 2,000 police officers were involved in the arrests, most of which occurred in and around Milan.

Most of the arrests involved drugs, theft or illegal immigrants. However, more than 3 pounds of explosives were found with one suspect, the BBC reported Saturday.

More than 80 of those arrested were non-European Union citizens and 52 have been issued orders of deportation.

The sweep was meant "to guarantee greater security after the London attacks and to combat illegal immigration and street crime," said police Col. Cosimo Piccino.
